    USD1.7 million additional to address risks of avian influenza in Vietnam

    (CPV) - Vietnam will improve its readiness to prevent and cope with avian influenza under a USD1.7 million project extension funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

    On the occasion of the anti-drug action month of June 2013, the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee steered the departments, sectors, organizations and people’s committees of districts, cities and towns to organize practical activities.

    Government assists disadvantaged pupils with rice

    The Prime Minister has signed a decision on providing rice for pupils in regions that have extremely disadvantaged socio-economic conditions. Each pupil will be given 15 kilograms per month, with a maximum assistance of 9 months per year.

    USD200,000 for rural infrastructure development in central provinces

    The Prime Minister has approved the spending of USD200,000 in non-refundable aid from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for technical support for the project to develop the rural infrastructure in central provinces.

    Over 10,000 garment workers given helmets

    The Garment 10 Joint Stock Corporation (GARCO 10) on June 18 presented helmets of standard quality to its 10,000 workers, and encouraged them to wear helmets as a practical action to contribute to reducing the bad consequences of traffic accidents.

    Vietnamese doctors give free medical treatment to 6,000 Cambodian people

    A delegation of 10 experienced Vietnamese doctors from the Thai Binh Medical College gave medical treatment and medicines free-of-charge to nearly 6,000 Cambodian people in the poor district of Ruissey Keo of Phnom Penh capital city, said the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association on June 18.

    Over USD76 million for Central Highlands residents’ healthcare

    The Prime Minister has adopted a project on providing healthcare for people in the Central Highlands region, in its second phase, with a total capital of USD76.6 million, of which USD70 million was lent by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

    Mekong River Delta supports vocational training for over 310,000 rural labourers

    In the 2010-2012 period, Mekong River Delta provinces assisted 311,556 rural labourers with vocational training, including 136,845 labourers learning agricultural industries and 174,711 labourers learning non-agricultural industries, according to the General Department of Vocational Training.

    Vietnam has over 1.2 million disabled children, including those affected by the aftermaths of war, especially toxic chemicals, bombs, mines and explosive remnants. It poses a great challenge to the country in ensuring their rights and helping them integrate into society.
