CPV: On November 8, the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and the German Ministry of Co-operation and Development signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on co-operation and development in 2006.
Under the MoU, Germany will provide 13 million euros (15.4 million USD) to help Vietnam implement urgent projects regarding forest planting (3 million euros), the fight against bird flu (4 million euros) and poverty reduction (6 million euros).
Earlier, the German Government committed 98 million euros (114.7 million USD) in assistance for Vietnam in the year 2006 at the Consultative Group meeting in Hanoi on December 6-7, compared to 43 million euros for 2005.
Signatories were Ho Quang Minh, Head of the External Relations Department (under the Vietnamese Planning and Investment Ministry) and Ursula Schafer-Preuss, Head of the German Cooperation and Department Ministry’s Department.
Vietnam’s project management agencies and their German partners will coordinate in preparing project-related documents to be submitted for approval.
Since 1990, Germany has donated a total of 700 million Euros to Vietnam. The two countries have enhanced cooperative relations in the fields of macroeconomic reform, private economic development, job training, natural resources and environment protection, and healthcare development.
