Inaugurating 150,000 USD new school in Dien Bien province to celebrate Dien Bien Phu victory
    10:55 | 06/05/2010

(CPV)- The Boeing Company and the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap on May 5 inaugurated a new school in Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province in celebrating the Dien Bien Phu victory.

The 150,000 USD (about 284 million VND) primary school complex funded by Boeing Company and contribution from the local authorities. The project was spearheaded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation in collaboration with the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee.

The school’s dedication ceremony occurred on the 56th anniversary of the battle of Dien Bien Phu and, most meaningfully, General Vo Nguyen Giap’s 100th birthday.

The complex contains a new two-story classroom building, seven renovated classrooms, a computer lab, and a new fenced-in playground. Wheelchairs ramps were built as an integral part of the school buildings in order to ensure students and parents with a disability can access the school. It will serve around 300 students and teachers in the commune.

A representative from General Vo Nguyen Giap’s family donated an entire computer lab to the school, hoping that computers with Internet will provide educational opportunities for the ethnic minority children of Muong Phang to learn, share, create, and collaborate. By approaching the system, the teachers of Muong Phang can now access on-line educational content to facilitate their teaching.

On this occasion, 200 brand-new books are donated by the leading children’s publishing house Kim Dong.
