The Vietnam Environment Administration has coordinated with the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and the Women’s Association in Ngoc Khanh precinct to organize a meeting marking Earth Day 2012 with the message of joining hands to protect the environment and lakes in Hanoi.

U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam David B. Shear said that cooperation with Vietnam on environment issues was one of the priorities of the U.S.

According to the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR), the system of 120 lakes in inner Hanoi helps cool urban areas to modify the impact of heat and rain.

Right after the meeting, people in Ngoc Khanh precinct, volunteers, pupils and students joined in a clean-up and tree-planting event at Ngoc Khanh Lake./.
