    New ASEAN website helps protect consumers

    The ASEAN Committee for Consumer Protection (ACCP) has launched a new website, www.aseanconsumer.org, to help consumers with recalled or banned products, explain the compensation mechanism and provide general information.

    According to a statement released by the ASEAN Secretariat on May 4, the development of the ACCP’s website was led by Malaysia , the outgoing Chair of the ACCP and Indonesia , the current chair of the Working Group on Cross Border Consumer Rights.

    Speaking at a ceremony to launch the website, during the 5 th ACCP Conference in Bali, Indonesia from May 2-4, the Chair and Deputy Secretary General of the ACCP Mahani Tan Abdullah, who is also Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, said that the website will enable consumers to access information on consumer protection rights throughout ASEAN.

    It will not only benefit ASEAN consumers, but also foreign visitors who come to ASEAN on official or personal business, she noted./.
