At the French Academy, overseas Vietnamese Prof. Trinh Xuan Thuan has been presented with the 2012 Cino Del Duca World Prize, a major international literary award in France, recognizing his efforts to popularise science among the general public worldwide.

Prof. Thuan has written numerous books aimed toward making science accessible to ordinary people, in addition to his astronomical research. The prize adds to a growing list of awards for his writing, the most recent being UNESCO’s Kalinga Prize in 2009.

Born in Hanoi in 1948, Prof. Thuan has been working at the University of Virginia, USA, since 1976, and is a Research Associate at the Paris Institute of Astrophysics.

Talking about the award, he stressed that it encouraged him to continue working for the cause of disseminating scientific knowledge./.
