A project on medical assistance in 13 Mekong River delta provinces and cities helped 70% of people living close to poverty by assisting the purchase of medical insurance cards. A further 808 patients were provided heart surgery and 17 hospitals and 13 preventive health centers have been provided hi-tech medical equipment.

During a meeting to review the implementation of the project on June 20, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen said that the project also trained 23 doctors, 23 PhD candidates, nearly 1,960 doctors and nearly 1,800 medical cadres for medical foundations in the region.

Sponsored by the World Bank, the project aimed to increase the quality of the medical system in the region, ensuring that people, especially the poor, have greater opportunity to access high quality services./.
