Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan visited the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Village, President Ho Chi Minh relic, and Vietnamese nationals in Nakhon Phanom province on June 23.

Vice President Doan is in Thailand for a five-day official visit to the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Provincial Governor Anukun Tangkananukulchai welcomed Doan’s visit, saying the visit will help strengthen cooperative ties between the two countries.

The Governor briefed his guest on the province’s socio-economic development. He said with a population of 700,000, Nakhon Phanom has enormous potential for cultural, tourism and education development.

The province has famous tourist destinations, including the President Ho Chi Minh relic where the late Vietnamese president lived in 1928-1929.

The Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Village has become a popular tourist spot, receiving crowds of visitors.

The governor said many Vietnamese in the province have been granted full Thai citizenship and they are making an important contribution to the province’s development.

Vice President Doan highly valued the cooperation between Nakhon Phanom and a number of provinces in central Vietnam. She thanked the local administration for building the friendship village which houses the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial.

The construction of these works is of significance, Doan said, adding that it not only meets the aspirations of Vietnamese people in Thailand but also helps Thai and foreign tourists to know more about President Ho who laid a firm foundation for building the Vietnam-Thailand friendship.

Meeting with overseas Vietnamese in the province, Doan praised their efforts to integrate into the local community while keeping their hearts and minds toward the homeland.

Approximately 100,000 Vietnamese people are residing in Thailand, mostly in the northeast region, including Nakhon Phanom.

The same day, Vice President Doan visited Khon Kaen province./.
