    10:59 | 30/06/2012

The Vietnamese team competing at the 4 th ASEAN Student Games has set off for Indonesia, this year’s host country.

These games will see nearly 4,000 young athletes from seven nations, namely Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam and host Indonesia battle it out in a range of events.

Vietnam’s team will compete in six events, swimming, table tennis, basketball, track and field, gymnastics and Pencak Silat.

They hope to pick up medals in track and field, gymnastics and Pencak Silat which are the team’s strong points, as it has secured a host of medals at these events in previous regional and global competitions.

The ASEAN Student Games is an annual sporting event which aims to enhance friendship amongst students around the region.

It also offers a chance for students to take part in other activities such as cultural exchanges, art performances and sight seeing trips, which will help them to express their own cultural identities./.
