    Localities care for AO victims

    Walk held to raise fund for AO victims 

    To mark the day for Agent Orange victims (August 10) and the 51st anniversary of the AO catastrophe in Vietnam, localities across the country are increasing the care activities for AO victims.

    In the central province of Thanh Hoa, the provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange has visited and given 85 presents worth 40 million to AO victims.

    Thanh Hoa City has 1,350 AO victims. To help them mitigate difficulties in life, the provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange has called on organizations, agencies and individuals to donate money to a the fund for AO victims; and assisted the victims with housing, medical treatment and scholarships.

    During a meeting with AO victims of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, 26 AO victims were given scholarships worth 13 million VND.

    Kon Tum City has 1,000 AO victims who are suffering serious diseases.

    Since the beginning of the year, the Association of Victims of AO in the central province of Quang Nam, has mobilized over 2.5 billion VND to help disadvantaged AO victims improve their lives and integrate into society.

    The money has been used to build 22 houses, assist 26 victims’ families, and give over 3,300 presents to AO victims.

    As at July 2012, Quang Nam province had 4,464 AO victims receiving allowance.

    The Bien Hoa City Association of Victims of AO, in the southern province of Dong Nai, recently held a meeting with the victims to share the pain with them. During the meeting, the association gave 60 presents to disadvantaged victims and also provided free medical treatment.

    In Ho Chi Minh City, nearly 10,000 people joined a walk to raise funds for AO victims and poor disabled people.

    This was the sixth time the walk of this kind was held in the city.

    During the walk, nearly one billion VND was raised from agencies, enterprises, organizations and individuals to help AO victims and poor disabled people./.
