The central province of Ha Tinh has given the insurance certificates for rice to over 11,000 farming households with a total capital of over 2.5 billion VND.

The province is one of the seven localities to grant rice insurance based on a decision of the Prime Minister.

Among the families given insurance certificates for rice, nearly 9,000 are poor families and over 1,900 are living near the poverty line.

The rice area that receives insurance worth 50 billion VND is 2,235 hectares, the Vietnam Government Portal (VGP) reported.

Earlier in the winter-spring season, over 11,000 farming households in three districts also participated in rice insurance with over 3.8 billion VND, of which 3.6 billion VND was from by the state budget.

Under the decision by the Prime Minister, poor farmers will receive 100% of the insurance money from the State, farmers living near the poverty line receive 80% and other farmers, 60%. Meanwhile, 20% is also given to enterprises participating in rice production.

The decision regulates that rice will be insured from natural disasters and epidemics.

According to VGP, rice insurance has been given to tens of thousands of farming households./.
